This semester you will
have the opportunity to conduct mini research as an anthropologist and apply/
make connections with course materials. For this project you will be
observing primates at the zoo, ideally you will pick ONE species of
primate and make observations. The main objective of this project is
to apply the terms/ concepts/ class material to your observations... Chapters 3
& 4 will be helpful in this endeavor.

parts that will be submitted together....
1. Field Notes
Approximately 4
pages (handwritten front and back).
-Must include the
following.
-- DATE
--Start and End times
-- Areas Visited
--Specific
(detailed) observations
--Pics/ sketches
--other information
from area (ex. placards... what do they say)
2. Background
Research
(2 pages typed, 12
font, New Times Roman, Double spaced)
After you have
completed your field notes... do a bit of background research and provide a
"fact sheet" for your species. primate: geographic locations,
natural habitats, typical social units, behavior, information
about your particular species in captivity... Do research on any issues related
to your species.
3. Field Notes
Write Up
(2 pages typed, 12
Font, New Times Roman, Double spaced)
1. Connect the field
notes to your research/ content of the class.
Do they have similar
units? Behaviors? (vs wild/ read about) Write more extensive descriptions
based on your observations and connect it to the contents of the class.
